Pottstown Parks and Recreation

We are moving!
Effective September 1, 2010 the Parks and Recreation department will be located in Borough Hall, 100 E. High Street, 2nd floor. We will continue to provide educational and recreational activities for all ages, continue to maintain the grounds entrusted to our care, and continue to support community activities.  Nothing has changed except our location.

We would like to thank the Pottstown School District, administrators and school board, for the support and the space they have provided for many years. The address may be changing but the collaboration between Parks and Recreation and the School District will continue. Our programs will continue to be housed in School District facilities and we look forward to a continued support system.

Independence Day Ltd.
The July 4th Homecoming Committee would like to thank every person, company, and organization that donated money to the Fourth of July Fund. We would also like to thank everyone who contributed to the Queen Contest, participated in the Car Show, and purchased hats and calendars. Because of you, we are able to pay for the fireworks ($24,000), the cost of the parade ($5,000), the cost of the entertainment ($5,000), and all other costs for the event. Other costs include the police ($10,200), the fire police ($1,500), liability insurance ($2,300), port-a-potties ($1,500), and miscellaneous expenses ($2,500). Without the support of the community, the two-day Fourth of July event is not possible. We hope the community will continue to financially support this event in the future. Every amount of money contributed helps pay for this event.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of how these two unlikely friends grew to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. This fantasy-filled musical was the winner of three 2004 Tony Awards including prizes for Best Costume Design and Best Scenic Design. From real flying monkeys to a trip to the Emerald City and a soaring, modern score by Stephen Schwartz, Wicked is a true spectacle for the eyes and ears. With a cast led by Broadway legend Ben Vereen (Pippin, Fosse) TV icon Rue McClanahan (The Golden Girls) and breakthrough stars Shoshana Bean and Megan Hilty, there's never been a better time to visit the Emerald City! The twists and turns in Gregory Maguire's incredibly imaginative back-story to The Wizard of Oz makes audiences literally gasp with delight. But not only that, Wicked is a truly heartfelt story of friendship and love. As Richard Zoglin of Time Magazine put it, "If every musical had a brain, a heart and the courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place!". Drawing from over 40 years of Marvel comic books for inspiration, Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark spins a new take on the mythic tale of a young man propelled from a modest rowhouse in Queens to the sky-scraping spire of the Chrysler Building, the bustling offices of the Daily Bugle, through the dizzying canyons of Manhattan, to new vistas never before seen. The musical follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down—literally—when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek—suddenly endowed with astonishing powers—soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains test not only his physical strength but also his strength of character.
